Professor Musa Muhammad Borodo was born more than 68 years ago at Bukuru near Jos, Plateau State to the family of Mallam Muhammad Borodo, a business entrepreneur, scholar and community leader. His origin was in the industrious quarters of tango, Kano city. He had his primary education at Bukuru and Gyel primary schools from 1960 to 1965, then proceeded to Provincial Secondary School Kuruwhere he obtained his WAEC certificate in 1970 and thereafter obtained his higher school certificate (HSC) from Government College Keffi in 1972. He gained admission to study Medicine at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in I973, where he graduated with M B BS in 1978. Professor Borodo had hisHousemanship at .los General Hospital and MurtalaMuhammed Specialist Hospital in Kano, after which he was posted toMethodist Maternity Hospital. Ikole-Ekiti for his National service in 1979. Thereafter, he was appointed as a Medical Officer in Kano State and immediately sponsored for training to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria i n1982 where he obtained fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College in Physic (FMCP) with subspecialization in Gastroenterology in 1986. He had one year attachment in the department of gastroenterology of St Bartholomew's Teaching hospital London in 1985 where he obtained a certificate in Hepatology. From 1987 to 1990, Professor Borodo worked at MurtalaMuhammed Specialist Hospital(MMS11), Kano as Consultant Physician and subsequently as senior consultant and head of Department of Mcdicine.ln November 1990 he transferred his services to the then newly established Medical School in Bayero University, Kano as Senior Lecturer and Pioneer Head of Medicine department. a post he occupied until 2010. He also served as the first indigenous Dean of the Medical school from 1992 to 1996. He was promoted to Reader in Medicine in 2010 and a Professor of medicine in 2014. Interestingly, Prof Borodo never severed his relationship with MMSH where he had continued to render free humanitarian specialist services for about 30 years. Professor Borodo has served the National postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) in various capacities including board member, third senate member and subsequently chairman of the Faculty of Internal Medicine. He is also the Kano Center coordinator for the Fellowship exams and was the Chairman, organising committee of the very successful and memorable ASCAF Congress in Kano in 2017. Some of his present administrative and community appointments are,PRESIDENT, NPMCN; Chairman research and Ethics Committee of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano; ChairmanHudaibiyyafoundation,Kano; National Patron Medical and Dental Consultants Association of N igeria (MDCAN); Patron Bayero University Medical Students Association; Member. Board ofTrustee. Kano Forum. Professor Borodo has supervised more than 25 dissertations in Internal Medicine and has published more than 60 peer reviewed papers in national and international journals, authored 16 monographs and Technical reports and presented more than 30 papers/Guest lectures at national and international conferences. He has served as external examiner for the MB BS programs in universities of Jos. Maiduguri, Sokoto and ABU Zaria. His research efforts concentrated on defining the biology, burden, complications and genomics of viral hepatit ides. Medical bioethics and Medical education Professor Borodo is a member of severalprofessiona I societies among which are the Society for Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Nigeria, British Society of Gastroenterology and World Gastroenterology Organization. He was a recipient of about 20 merit awards from various organisations, including the Kano state Merit award for Medicine and the I MDCAN merit award for clinical excellence and leadership. He is married and blessed with 8 Children Professor Borodo is an international personality, a teacher of teachers, a goal getter, a bridge builder, an honest, forthright and dedicated clinician, researcher, leader, philanthropist and an excellent administrator.
